nDoctrinal Statement of Faithn

1.nThe Bible is God’s Word
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, that holy men of God were “moved by the Holy Spirit” to write the words of Scripture which were without error in the original writings. We believe that all Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, center around and lead to the Lord Jesus Christ.M(II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:20-21; Romans 15:4)

2.nThe Trinity
We believe in one God, existing eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—each having precisely the same nature, attributes, and perfections.M(Psalm 90:2; Matthew 28:18-19; Hebrews 1:1-3; John 14:16-17, 26)

3.nJesus is God
We believe that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God who became man without ceasing to be God. We believe that He was born of the virgin Mary, that His death on the cross was the sacrifice for the sins of all men, that His bodily resurrection from the dead guaranteed redemption and salvation to all those who believe, and that He will return with power and glory.
M(John 1:1,14; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:23-24; Ephesians 1:20-21; Philippians 2:6-11; Hebrews 12:2; I John 2:1-2; Acts 1:9-11; Revelation 19:11-16)

4.nSalvation is Only through Jesus Christ
We believe that salvation is the gift of God based on the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ and that it is received only by a person through personal faith in Jesus Christ and is not based on one’s own merit or good works. We believe that at the moment of salvation, the Holy Spirit indwells and seals the believer for the day of redemption.M(John 1:12-13; John 3:13-18; John 10:25-30; John 14:6; Romans 5:6-11; II Corinthians 5:17-21; Ephesians 1:13-14; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:3-7)

5.nSacraments
We believe that water baptism and the Lord’s Supper (Communion) are the only sacraments instituted by the Lord Jesus Christ. We believe that baptism symbolizes the believer’s identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a memorial remembrance reminding believers of Christ’s work on the cross and promoting an atmosphere of thankfulness in the Church.M(Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38; Romans 6:3-7; Colossians 2:12; Luke 22:19-20; I Corinthians 11:26)

6.nThe Sanctity of Human Life
We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life.M(Psalm 139; Jeremiah 1:5)

7.nStatement of Gender, Marriage and Sexuality
We believe that God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. Rejection of one’s biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.M(Genesis 1:26-27)
MMWe believe that the term “marriage” has only one meaning: the uniting of one man and one woman in a single, exclusive union, as delineated in the Bible.M(Genesis 2:18-25)
MMWe believe that God intends sexual intimacy to occur only between a man and a woman who are married to each other.M(I Corinthians 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4)
MMWe believe that God has commanded that no intimate sexual activity be engaged in outside of a marriage between a man and a woman. We believe that any form of sexual immorality (including adultery, fornication, homosexual behavior, bisexual conduct, bestiality, incest, and use of pornography) is sinful and offensive to God.M(Matthew 15:18-20; I Corinthians 6:9-10; Leviticus 18)
MMWe believe that in order to preserve the function and integrity of Coronado Christian Church as a local Body of Christ and to provide a biblical role model to the church’s members and the community, it is imperative that all members, all persons employed by Coronado Christian Church in any capacity, or all who serve as volunteers agree to abide by this Statement on Gender, Marriage, and Sexuality.M(Matthew 5:16; Philippians 2:14-16; I Thessalonians 5:22)
MMWe believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.M(Acts 3:19-21;nRomans 10:9-10;nI Corinthians 6:9-11)
MMWe believe that every person must be afforded compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity.M(Mark 12:28-31; Luke 6:31)
MMHateful and harassing behavior or attitudes directed toward any individual are to be repudiated and are not in accord with Scripture nor the doctrines of Coronado Christian Church. However, church attendees and members should be aware that public displays of affection of a romantic or sexual nature are not permitted in church or on church property, including the parking lots.

8.nFinal Authority for Matters of Belief and Conduct
This statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself (as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind) is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Coronado Christian Church’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, the Senior Pastor is the final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.

“A new command I give you:
Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?” Jesus replied,
“Where I am going, you cannot follow now, but you will follow later.”

— John 13:34-36
